The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

This book is essentially the prologue to the Lord of the Ring series. The series was made popular by the trilogy with Viggo Mortensen, Elisha Wood and Orlando Bloom. This story is the missing piece to the puzzle created by the movies. It explains how the ring was found by Bilbo and then later passed to Frodo. This story in the quest of thirteen dwarfs and a hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, because the dwarfs would not leave with the unlucky number of thirteen people. I recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the series of movies or would like an introduction before doing so.
