The Gift of Today by Dianne Klancir

The Gift of Today is a book about a mother/wife who is faced with the unrealistic fact that her husband has been diagnosed with lung cancer. The main characters, Dianne and Larry, first struggle with the news but their positive and warrior-like attitude pushes them to fight the disease.

Larry, who is a retired maintenance man, has trouble lying around because his life, previous to the cancer, was very active. Dianne, who is a registered nurse, treats Larry as if he was her patient. Within the first couple of Chemo treatments and radioactive treatments Larry’s tumor disappears. The hope of possibly beating the disease lifts up both of their spirits. As a celebration they plan a trip to Hawaii, their dream vacation, along with their daughter Dina. They have a great time, but Larry begins to feel sick again. The ending will not be given away but this book is a great read for anyone going through a similar problem. It’s a good book to motivate anyone to live each day of their life as if it was their last.
