Tech Tip: Get Organized with Your Student Google Apps Account

School is back in session and its time to get organized.  Our district offers student Google Apps accounts that you can access from anywhere and anytime. To access your account, just go to the school homepage. Click Students > Google Student Login. Your username is the same one that you use to get on to the computer network. Your password is almost the same, but you have to add 94 to the end of it. There are a lot of tools available in your account that you might be using in your classes while you here at WEGO, but there are three that might be most useful to you on a daily basis (as opposed to specific school assignments).

E-mail

Click on Mail on the black bar at the top of the screen. This is a Gmail account that you can use to send e-mails to any WEGO staff member or student. Have a question about an assignment or want to e-mail your paper to your teacher? This is the tool that will help you do that. Please note that you can't send or receive e-mail to anyone that doesn't have a d94.org address. Your student email address is yourusername@students.d94.org.

Calendar & To Do List

Click on the Calendar link on the black bar at the top of the screen. This is your electronic calendar. You can add appointments, test dates, days off school,  assignment due dates, etc. If you click on the Tasks link under the My Calendars link on the left side, you also have access to a To Do list. The calendar is also searchable in case you forget when a project is due.

Online Office & File Storage

If you click on Documents (or Drive), you have access to an online equivalent to Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.  These online programs allow you to work from anywhere you have a web browser and an internet connection. And if it is a group project, you can share and collaborate with classmates on the same document at the same time. When you are done, you can download the document into the corresponding Microsoft Office format. If you just need to transport a file to your home computer or share it with someone else, you can upload it to your account and retrieve it from anywhere. With 5 GB of free space for any non-Google formatted document, this is a great replacement for those Flash drives you keep losing, right?
