I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga

Barry Lyga’s book, I Hunt Killers, is an action packed fiction novel. This book was a big mystery and full of puzzles and questions. 

The main character is Jazz Dent who is the son of one of the most notorious serial killers. With Jazz growing up with his dad pushing him to follow in his footsteps, Jazz has all the inside information on what serial killers look to do and why they perform some of their actions. This characteristic is important to Jazz in this book because a few years after his dad has been arrested, a new serial killer is using some of the same tactics. This is a problem for Jazz because now people think Jazz is following in his father’s footsteps. 

The only way for Jazz to stop these accusations is to help the police by using the skills he has learned from his father. He helps investigate the crime scenes and finds more clues about who the new serial killer is. Jazz is able to help the police because he sees crime scenes from a whole different viewpoint because of his past experiences with his dad.

This book is full of description and mysteries that are very interesting as they start to unravel. The author does a great job to help you picture all the scenes and really gets you interested in the book. You will want to keep reading. If you enjoy watching TV shows like CSI or Criminal Minds you will love this book. This is one of the best books I’ve ever read and it has an ending that will keep you wondering. A struggle you have is always wondering what will happen if Jazz will continue to blaze his own future or if he will decide to do what his father had planned for him. You will need to read this book to find out. Go pick it up at your local library and you will not want to put it down.

If you like the television show, this book is for you. Although it's not exactly like the show since there are key differences in the ending and with the characters but it is just as interesting.

A Stranger Is Watching by Mary Higgens Clark

I read the book When A Stranger Calls by Mary Higgins Clark. I really liked this book because it was action packed. The book was very suspenseful and I was always anxious to know what was coming next. I would curl up under my blanket and as I would turn the pages, I’d become startled at any little noise around me. The author just continually kept me hooked to reading this murder mystery. I certainly recommend this book. I am looking forward to reading more books written by this author.

Darkly Dreaming By Jeff Lindsey

If you enjoy the Showtime Show, Dexter, this story is a must-read. The story is based on the life of Dexter Morgan who is a crime scene blood splatter specialist but also a serial killer. He feels the murders he commits are okay because he has rules for the victims he kills. The people he kills are Miami's worst, the murderers who slip through the justice system. But he is troubled when another serial killer emerges and has
similar methods to his own. The book is similar but more graphic and twisted than the first season on TV.

Darkly Dreaming By Jeff Lindsey

This is the first book in the Dexter series, which was also made into a popular T.V. show. The book is very descriptive in the murder scenes and is definitely a page turner. I think other students will enjoy this book because if they are looking for a good mystery book that is very descriptive, the Dexter series is for them. The HBO TV show is also very well done and very scary.

Hannibal by Thomas Harris

After reading The Silence of the Lambs, my expectations for this book were very high. I was very excited to continue reading the next chapter in Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter's life. I have to say I wasn't as pleased. The book switches gears very fast and you have trouble understanding exactly what is happening. The book itself isn't so bad but once you've read The Silence of the Lambs you'll be able to tell this book wasn't as thought out. I would still recommend it just to form your own opinion. I still think other students would enjoy it because it has a killer twist at the end they may or may not like.

The Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris

The Silence of the Lambs was the first book I've read from this author. I must say, I was very impressed. The reason I enjoyed this book was because it had to do with a lot of crime scenes and mystery, which is related to what I want to be when I grow up. Aside from that, there was a lot of suspense and Hannibal Lecter has to be one of the best fictional serial killers ever created. I think other students would like this book because there's a lot of suspense, drama and twists. It's rare for someone to say this, but the movie is just as good.

Zodiac by Robert Graysmith

I liked this book a lot because it is about a true event, the Zodiac murders. The book covers the Zodiac killer and the crime scenes in great detail. The book also contains all the different counties' cases, being the first book to have all the evidence together. It has a good narrative story and it brings you inside the character's feelings during these times of stress and threats. You should read this book if you like problem solving and mysteries.
